Albert Nyberg

March 29th, 2011 by william | No Comments | Filed in clip, international

This Albert “Abbe” Nyberg clip has been making the rounds lately, with lots of shares and likes on Facebook and mentions in the car when driving between spots. Abbe’s section is off the hook! For those who haven’t “friended” the right people you can look at it here.

Abbe rides for Swedish company Newsoul that was started by Jean-Marc Soulet and Albert Nyberg in 2009. He has shot to prominence after his performance at the Berrics. Here’s the clip of the match up between him and PJ Ladd on BATB4. Pretty riveting stuff, just as I was getting over the Berrics.

Albert Nyberg has joined the Etnies Europe team.

If you ever wondered what the full Newsoul video was like, wonder no more because here it is.

Thrasher King of the Road 2010 and other Clips

March 15th, 2011 by william | No Comments | Filed in clip, dvd, industry, international, video

Thrasher’s “King of the Road” 2010 came and went. I started watching the webisodes, but I was a little busy around that time and didn’t keep up. I have all the other Thrasher King of the Road DVDs and they were an enjoyable watch. It gave me great pleasure to see that the full thing is now available for downloading here. I spent last night watching the whole thing. While webisodes are cool, I’m blessed with an attention span that is greater than 3 minutes, so taking an hour to watch a DVD is not a great chore. I think I actually prefer it that way, I can give the clip my undivided attention, rather than with smaller clips, that I watch while doing other things. Epic clip, and such good quality.

I had hoped they put the whole thing out as a DVD like Independent did with their 30th Anniversary Tour. Initially you could download the ISO and burn your own DVD, which I did. They even had cover art. Later it was available as a giveaway or in an issue of Thrasher Magazine, so I got one of those too.

I thought about it a little more, I wanted the 2010 one to carry on my collection, but faced with just a clip, and nothing for prosperity, I’ve made my own.

If an “official” one comes out later I’ll buy it and replace it.

Which brings me to the Lakai Video Collection 2010.

What a good idea!

A lot of clips have a use-by date and they eventually vanish. I’m not sure where they go, as theoretically they should end up in the net somewhere protected from extinction by the fact that they are released to the web and thus end up on YouTube. But in reality, you can never find them, they just seem to get lost or removed and the quality is crap. Companies and skaters invest a lot of time and money into these clips, and like a favourite DVD you might want to watch it again. For example, I enjoyed the Thrasher “Back to the Berg” that they held in 2009. I re-watch that occasionally. There were a whole bunch of clips of that event that I watched religiously. It would have been good to have them all collected up on one DVD, in fact a “Best of Thrasher”, with the best web clips for that entire year. I don’t know if I could find all those clips these days to watch and whether the effort would be worth it. What will the equivalent of the old VHS videos of the ’90s that form the basis of our ’90s reality for us older skaters be, for the current crop of young skaters? I occasionally go back through this blog and I notice gaps where stuff should be, but it doesn’t exist anymore, so much for the internet being an ultimate archive.
