Some interesting videos that are a little different than what we would associate with the skateboarding video.

The Best International Film winner Plank hosted on the emerica website was made last year by Billy Pols. It’s a story about Dutch/Morrocan skateboarder Nassim Guammaz. Although he didn’t win it in 2009, he went on to win the Street Section of the 2010 etnies European Skateboard Championship in Basel, Switzerland.

Also here at Tacky.

Best Commercial Winner Nestle Aero, with skating by Bob Burnquist.

The Best Documentary Winner was Skateistan: To Live and Skate Kabul. Skateistan is Afghanistan’s first co-educational skateboarding school. Here is the trailer for the film.

Another trailer from the Best Emerging Filmmaker, Dayman Cash for his video Symmetry.

Emerica – Stay Gold

August 23rd, 2010 by william | No Comments | Filed in USA, book, dvd, event, international, video

Here’s an interview at the Hollywood Stay Gold Premiere from FuelTV.
And another at the New York City Premiere of Stay Gold on KarmaloopTV.

Andrew “THE Boss” Reynolds comments on the Video.

Stay Gold features sections by Aaron Suski, Andrew Reynolds, Brandon Westgate, Braydon Szafranski, Jerry Hsu, Kevin Long, Bryan Herman, Ed Templeton, Leo Romero, Marquis Preston, Collin Provost, Justin Figueroa, Jamie Tancowny and Heath Kirchart (as an easter egg).

The Bonus has Andrews’s Madness – looking at his OCD, a feature on Ed’s Book in the Deluxe version, Emerica Europe flow sections, an International Montage and US riders who are on the flow program.

The DVD has hidden footage (easter eggs) of Heath Kirchart (from the chapter select menu, select “back to main” button, hit right arrow button once, hit enter) and the Barrier Cult (from the bonus menu, select “Andrew Madness” button, hit left arrow button once, hit enter).

Heath Kirchart has retired from skating in demos and videos, hence his reduced role in the video. His “hidden section” was a career summary rather than groundbreaking new footage. After the US premiere Justin “Figgy” Figueroa became pro for Baker.

Here’s Ed Templeton talking about the deluxe DVD set that includes a photographic book with 148 pages containing photographs of the Emerica team over the last ten years by Ed Templeton, Michael Burnett, Atiba Jefferson, and Mike O’Meally.

Some photos, with amusing comments from the Baker Boy’s Distribution blog on the Stay Gold World premiere.

Here are some of the product to go with that Stay Gold DVD. A Romero shoe…

… and my personal favourite the Reynolds 3 – Stay Gold.

There are six shoe styles available in the Stay Gold colourway.

Not sure what I make of this. Could some people be taking themselves a little too seriously? I guess I’ll have to wait and see how this pans out. Good opportunity to “pig out” on skate videos none the less, and Machotaildrop looks like it will be one of the featured films. If I lived in L.A. I’d be taking some time off and sitting through some of those. Wonder if the Schidt Videos will make it into the “Best Classic” section… maybe next year.

Chris Cole Wallenberg 360 Flip Uncut

May 1st, 2010 by william | No Comments | Filed in USA, dvd, video

In Zero’s New Blood, Chris Cole 360 flips Wallenberg for his last trick. On the Transworld site they have the uncut footage and does Cole take a hammering. It’s cool to see this stuff. Often you’ll see a ten second piece of footage in a skate video and you’ll think, “It’s an amazing trick, how good they must be to land it first time, because they must’ve, otherwise they’d be dead.” Well Cole proves that it’s possible to bail a trick like that more than once and still live. Check out his roll out. Knowing how to land when you bail is a pretty good skill. Now you know why Cole is one of the best skaters around today. Survival skills, and determination.

New Videos

April 25th, 2010 by william | No Comments | Filed in Oamaru, USA, dvd, video

The new Transworld video Hallelujah is due out US Summer 2010 (NZ Winter 2010) featuring Ryan Decenzo, Pete Eldridge, Taylor Bingaman, Tyler Bledsoe, and Torey Pudwill.

I had heard Stay Gold the new Emerica Video was due out around the same time but Reynolds on the Emerica Website says he’s halfway through filming, and he’s not sure of the date.

On a local front, Oamaru filmer Colin Evans is storming up the East Coast of the South Island filming for “South in Your Mouth”. Here is an old but funny clip of when they turned up to skate someone’s fourteen stair and there was a kids birthday going on. Not sure what the release date is on that.

Harvey Spannos

February 4th, 2010 by william | No Comments | Filed in dvd, entertainment, movie, video

The film Machotaildrop is directed by Corey Adams. He won a production budget of up to $1 million for making the Best Film of “The FUEL TV Experiment”. The film was called Harvey Spannos and was featured on FuelTV in 2006. There are a few other cool films that sound cool in this article that I found on Global Surf News, but are some clips I found on You Tube of Corey’s winning entry. Maybe another cool movie to seek out and watch.

A comedy shot in Vancouver, B.C. about a young boy’s discovery that his deceased father, a professional skateboarder in 1970, died in a tragic accident trying to ollie a shark pit. Upon discovery the young boy begins looking up to a professional skateboarder and will eventually have to choose between the fun of the board and the lure of cash.
