Koston One

September 26th, 2010 by william | No Comments | Filed in nostalgia, shoes

In a previous post I mentioned that I was a big fan of the Koston One, when he was on éS, and I speculated on what the new Nike Koston shoe might be like. So I’ve been combing all these random sneaker sites, and reading stuff about random sneakers I really didn’t want to know looking for the elusive Koston One. So here are the fruits of that extensive research.

This came from here, but has also found it’s way onto other sites, mine included.

Some things to note about this shoe. It’s a price point, which means it will be cheaper than some of those other Nike shoes when it hits the stores. It’s light, has no seams, the upper is mostly formed from one piece of suede. There is some stitching on the top of the toe. The sole looks like it is made of two types of compound, I guess one type might wear or grip better. The insole is a cushioned LunarLon heel cup, to provide support and cushioning for those big 24 sets.

The Nike SB Koston One is set for a release in the US Summer of 2011. That’s Winter for those in the Southern Hemisphere.

I think it’s a very nice shoe, I’m pleased it’s a price point and I like the simple design, it has clean lines. I’m pleased they aren’t a rehashed éS One. Recently éS had a crack at a Koston One, and I thought that was a cool attempt at the time, certainly a updated version, much like Lakai have done with their select range, but a much better attempt than Lakai did with their own attempt of the Koston One.

They were cool in their day but times and shoes have changed. I’m not sure how long the dominance of the vulcanized sole will continue, and the success of the Adidas Busenitz, at least around here, points to some people being prepared to skate a shoe that isn’t vulcanized. So I’m pleased Nike have made a good attempt to capture the spirit of the K1, but using the modern design elements of today’s and tomorrow’s skate shoes. Out of all the Nike shoes currently available, I think these are the ones.

I’m certainly pleased it wasn’t this.

Concrete Skateboarding Magazine – the 2010 Photo Annual

September 24th, 2010 by william | No Comments | Filed in international, magazine

Something really cool I found on the web today. Cananda’s Concrete Skateboarding Magazine on issuu. It’s the 2010 Photo Annual featuring 150 pages of pure skateboarding goodness. Founded in 1989 by Kevin Harris as Concrete Powder Magazine, Concrete published it’s 100th issue in 2009. This is the first issue to be posted on issuu. Concrete normally produces 7 issues every year, with 5 issues of the issues going to skateboard shops and the other 2 slicker issues going to magazine shops. Ideal diversion from this crazy spring weather we are having. Cool feature article starting on page 52/56 (displayed/issuu) subtitled “How Bryce Kanights Taught Jody Morris About Skate Photography” and a nostalgic article about Tod Swank starting page 78/82 with some pretty cool old photos. Being the photo issue there are lots of inspirational photos. If this is one of the free issues the slicker magazine shop ones must be truly awesome.
